We’ve switched to biennial data gathering for the city profiles — The data available here was collected in early 2022 and originally published in last year’s Canadian City Parks Report.
City Profile
City of North Vancouver
- North Vancouver has the highest number of community gardens relative to population, or 3 times the average, at nearly 21 community gardens per 100,000 people.
- North Vancouver is above average for percentage of park washrooms that are winterized, with 88% open year-round.
- North Vancouver is above average for percentage of parkland that is natural area at 66%.
- The city’s alcohol in public spaces pilot program returns for the third year, allowing happy hour to take place in designated areas of seven city parks. Washrooms are available for use at most of the pilot’s park locations.
- The city is developing a new park in the East Central Lonsdale neighbourhood that will provide unique amenities like a “circular covered canopy with hammocks and porch swings” and an in-ground trampoline. The park works towards the city’s goal of all residents having access to a park or public space within a 5-minute walk from home.
- Two parks in North Vancouver will receive new multi-purpose shelters to protect visitors from rain and sun, and provide space for activities and events. Residents were asked to help decide which parks the shelters would be installed in, narrowing down the decision between four parks to the final two.
